How old does my child/player have to be before they can play?
The minimum age for regular registration is 4 years old by August 1st. At the discretion of the Age Group Director (AGD), children may be registered at 3 ½ years old; HOWEVER, it is our experience that even a few months at this age may mean major differences in development and physical capabilities. It is not fair to the coach or players on the team to expect the coach to take extra time to deal with players who are not ready to play soccer. We strongly encourage you to volunteer to coach a team if you seek this exemption.

Where do we play soccer?
Games are played at Central Middle School for U6 and U8. U10 and U12 and U15 boys play at Central Middle School with several games each season held midweek at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park under the lights. Travelling teams play home games at MLK Park; away games will be listed on the team schedule and your coach will provide directions.

When and where are practices?
This depends on the coach. We suggest the coach get input from parents at the first meeting or practice to find a time and location that is convenient for as many as possible.

Do I get a discount if I have more that one child?
No. We realize that costs quickly mount for families with multiple children, but we try to keep registration fees as low as possible for all children. We feel that our fees are competitively set with respect to other youth sports organizations within Butte County.

Can I make a special request if there is a transportation problem?
Special requests MAY be considered if the written request is made at the time of application. The club reserves the right to deny requests in an effort to preserve competitive balance within certain age groups.

Can my child play down/up an age group?
Playing up may be done at the discretion of the Director of Coaching and Age Group Director. Requests must be submitted in writing to the Club Registrar. The request for a child to play down must also be in writing and will be considered by the Board of Directors.

What if I don't like my child's coach?
If this is the case, you are strongly encouraged to work with the Age Group Director and /or Director of Coaches to remedy the situation. If soccer skills are the issue, we do offer coaching courses each year, and would be happy to work with coaches to improve the quality of practices. Consider volunteering as an assistant coach.

Is there a refund if my child changes their mind about playing?

When do I get uniforms?
Our goal is to distribute uniforms at least a full week before the first game day. More information will be posted online as we near opening day. Your Age Group Director will have more information. Uniform distribution depends upon accurate collection of size information, team formations being done on schedule, smooth ordering and printing process; we thank you for your patience!

Can I request my daughter/son be on a certain team?
Oroville Youth Soccer Club’s recreational teams are created on an equal in strength basis, whether directly by the Age Group Directors or through a draft process. Selective placing disrupts this process, whether the transportation request is legitimate or not. OYSC will review written requests on a case-by-case basis.

How do I volunteer to coach?
Check the box on the registration form indicating your interest. A better way is to call or email a board member or Age Group Director as early as possible.

What are those colored cards the referee holds up?
A yellow card is shown to a player or coach for an infraction of the rules, known as the laws of the game. This is a caution and is usually followed by a free kick for the opposing team. A red card is more serious. The player or coach carded is immediately dismissed from the game (or sideline) and automatically misses at least the next game. The number of additional games missed depends on the incident and actions of the player or coach after the card is shown. The referee will indicate in a written statement the facts behind the card and the Club’s Protest, Appeals and Discipline committee will review the details and communicate the results to the coach and parents.
